    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Katherine Stannard worked at Douglas Aircraft in California for one summer during the Second World War. Interviewed by Pattie Johnston as part of the Lawrence Remembers: The World War II Years Project, Stannard talked about the war effort at home and her experiences during that time. Stannard was born on March 6, 1927, in Hawthorne, California. After the United States joined the war in 1941, several of her brothers joined the Navy and Merchant Marines. When she was sixteen, she spent a summer assembling wings on dive bombers for Douglas Aircraft. The following summer, she did timekeeping for a shipyard. After the war, Stannard went to Pepperdine University. Stannard passed away on May 2, 2019.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Richard Steffen served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1946. He served in the 489th Squadron as a clerk-typist. Interviewed by Pattie Johnston on June 28, 2007, Steffen talked about his military experiences during the Second World War. Steffen was born in Haviland, Kansas, on September 18, 1922. He was raised in Eudora, Kansas, and graduated high school in 1940. He then attended Lawrence Business School and began working at Sunflower Ordnance Works in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was first stationed in Midland, Texas, where he worked as the secretary to the commanding general of ACE. He then transferred to the Air Transport Command in Greenwood, Mississippi, and later went to Lunken Air Force Base in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was discharged on February 14, 1946. Following the war, Steffen worked for Charlton Insurance for seventeen years. He passed away on October 5, 2017.]]></dcterms:description>

He then spent thirteen months at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He also spent time in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines before returning home with battle fatigue. Following the war, Stoebener worked at the University of Kansas. He passed away on September 21, 2007.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[James A. “Jim” Stokes served in the United States Navy on the USS Erben, Third Fleet, from 1943 to 1946. Interviewed by Kristen Miller on August 30, 2002, as part of the Kansas Veterans History Project, Stokes talked about his military experiences during the Second World War. Stokes was born on August 11, 1923, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Stokes attended North Carolina State University and was in the ROTC. After joining the Navy, he went to Midshipmen training at Cornell University. He then went to the Pacific, where he took part in the campaigns in Okinawa and Tokyo. He was discharged on June 11, 1946.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Mabel Stoneback worked in the Army Air Corps as a clerk stenographer during the Second World War. Interviewed by Pattie Johnston on September 29, 2003, as part of the Lawrence Remembers: The World War II Years Project, Stoneback talked about her experiences during the war. Stoneback was born in Concordia, Kansas on April 5, 1915. She was raised in Lawrence, Kansas. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1933 and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in business. She then joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and moved to Washington, D.C. While there, she received a promotion to work for General Hap Arnold. In 1941, she transferred to Kansas City to work a civil service job in the Army Finance Office. In June 1944, she joined the Army Air Corps again and moved to California. She eventually moved back to Lawrence, married, and raised a family. Stoneback passed away on February 20, 2017.]]></dcterms:description>
