The collection focuses on resources related to the history of Lawrence, Kansas, including scenes of buildings, events, and people in Lawrence, as well as commercial advertisements for businesses located in Lawrence. The collection was loaned to the Lawrence Public Library for scanning and inclusion in the Digital Douglas County History project by Rosalea and Peter Carttar. Scanning and metadata creation for much of the collection was completed by Kylie Hewitt during the summer of 2016. Fire -- Kansas -- Lawrence Description An account of the resource Postcard with a black and white photograph of the Bowersock Opera House on fire on the front. Photograph is angled to focus on the corner of the building facing the street. On the first floor are Lawrence Journal signs on the front and side of the building. There is a large amount of smoke coming off of the top of the building and firefighters are hosing down the side of the building and another group of firefighters is setting up at the front. At the bottom of the photograph "Burning of Bowersock Opera House 2-18-1911" is printed in white ink. At the bottom of the right side "7 Photo by Lawrence" is printed in white ink. A white border is around the entire photograph. On the back is information on when and where the postcard was acquired, 6/14/1997 from Detlon.
