<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Archie Mills was a pilot in the United States Navy from 1939 to 1961. Interviewed by Pattie Johnston on March 16, 2006, Mills talked about his military experiences during the Second World War. Mills was born on July 14, 1914, in Brentwood, Arkansas. He attended flight training in Jacksonville, Florida and basic training in Corpus Christi, Texas. He then went to Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and was assigned to the VP24 squadron. For the first two years, he flew PBYs. He then trained to drop torpedoes. He took part in the Battle of Midway and then spent three years flying up and down the Solomon Islands. During his twenty-two years of service, he earned several medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. After Mills retired from the Navy, he worked in the loan and investment industry for nineteen years. He passed away on December 13, 2013.]]></dcterms:description>
