Description
Oscar Stoebener served in the United States Army in the 19th Regiment, 24th Division, 2nd Battalion. He was drafted in 1942. Interviewed by Pattie Johnston on September 26, 2005, Stoebener talked about his military experiences during the Second World War. Stoebener received basic training at Fort Walters in Texas. He then spent thirteen months at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He also spent time in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines before returning home with battle fatigue. Following the war, Stoebener worked at the University of Kansas. He passed away on September 21, 2007.
