                <text>In 2003, the Lawrence Public Library partnered with the Dole Institute of Politics and Haskell University to capture the histories of Douglas County’s World War II veterans in the Lawrence Remembers the World War II Years Project. From 2005 to 2007, the Lawrence Public Library, the Watkins Museum of History, and the Kansas State Historical Society also embarked on a similar endeavor, the Kansas Veterans of World War II Oral History Project, which was funded by the Kansas State Legislature. This collection contains many of the video recordings and more information about the interviews conducted for these projects.</text>

              <text>Wilmont “Bill” Grodi served in the United States Army (Air Corps). Interviewed by Pattie Johnston on May 2, 2006, Grodi talked about his experiences during the Second World War. Grodi was born on August 27, 1918. He graduated high school in Toledo, Ohio, in 1936. He went to the University of Toledo for two years and then joined the Army’s Aviation Cadets in 1941. He went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas. After completing his training as a B-17 bomber pilot, he joined the 385th Group. He went to England in 1943. Grodi received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon returning to the United States, he worked as a flight instructor. He retired as a captain. Grodi passed away on November 28, 2007.</text>
