THE FACTS OF LIFE
The story that follows is about four people named Everybody, Somebody,
and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was asked to do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody
thoug~tAnybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody blamed Somebody
when Nobody accused Anybody.

Presidents'! Letter
As I 'write this message Thanksgiving has just passed and Christmas, will soon
be upon us. How many of you have taken a few minutes to contemplate what our
ancestors did on their holida.vs back in Lancaster, Pa., Pitt sylvania County,
Va., Peoria, Ill., Oneida, N. y~, a' sod house in Nebraska, England, Holland,
or a 'million other localitiest
No doubt some were living in relative luxury with warm homes, plenty of food
to eat and friends to share the pleasures;.
otherS with below average material blessings, probab~ with large families to
feed and house spent the d~ with relatives and thanked their Maker for what
they had. Another group m~ have just arrived in a strange country with very
littl~ money, sickness, and a foreign language to learn. Most of us can consider ourselves among the fortunate compared to the life them.
We have about 41 members at present. Many are long time members and some have
been bitten by the "Genie Bugll recently. Did you know there are several stages
of the "Genie Disease ll ?' First, there is a little interest, it turns into a
hobby; and then continues into a full time vocation. In the latter stages,
genealogy becomes an obsession and is considered incurable. Many never get to
what I consider the best part of genealogy--helping others. We constant~
write for help to far away places and expect answers or read material someone
has sp~nt countless hours gathering and printing. I encourage more of our
friends and members to be the"unselfish experts from Douglas County.1I
Your executive cOlTllTlittee is working on plans for a workshop in the spring.
Hopefully we can announce details of date, location, and program soon.
Your president,

Herald of Freedom, April 21, 1855
Names: Females should have but one given name, and when they marry, should
retain their maiden name as a middle name. This is the practice among the
society of Friends, and were it generally adopted, it would have many advantages. We should know at once, on seeing a lady's name, whether she was
married or single, and if the former, what the name of her family was. And
it iS'further to' be considered that the adoption of this rule of but a single
first'name for girls would put an end forever to be whole brood of Emma
Mevalindas and Euphemia Helen Lauras, and a style of nomenclature which is
thoug~t by most persons to be ridiculous in the extreme.
