The Douglas County, Kansas Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization
with regularly scheduled MEETINGS the SECOND TUESDAY NIGHT OF EACH MONTH, 7:30
p.m., meeting place to be announced (usually the Lawrence Public Library).
Afternoon meetings and occasional area tours are held if possible. An annual
public workshop is h.eld to help in research. MEMBERSHIP FEES are $15.00
single, $2.00 for each additional member of the same household. Checks should
be made payable to the Douglas County, Kansas Genealogical Society and sent to
the address above. The fiscal year is from JULY 1 to JUNE 30 OF THE FOLLOWING
YEAR. Visitors are always welcome.

preservation and interpretation of local, state, and regional history. Carol's book authenticates the history
of the House building at 729-731 Massachusetts st., the oldest building in downtown Lawrence.

Goldie Vivian HOUT passed away July 7, 1991 in
Lawrence. She was born July 22, 1904, daughter
of George Washington JONES and Kate Josephine
ALLEN, and lived in Topeka as a small child. In
1914 she moved to Clinton and had lived there
ever since. She married Thomas Henry HOUT on
July 11, 1921 in Wyandotte County. He died
August 4, 1953.
Mrs. HOUT was active in her community, where
she was a member of the Clinton Lake Historical
Society, Clinton Presbyterian Church, and the
American Legion Auxiliary, as well as our
society.

maiden name? They were in TN in early 1800s, came to the area near Courtney,
MO ca. 1832, about the same time as the TALLEYs and the WILLIAMS. The TALLEYS
were in Saline Co., MO in 1840 and in ~ackson Co., MO by 1844. Children of

BRYANT, STAINBROOK
I need the orphan or guardianship records of a Peter and Mary C. STAINBROOK
who died in Iowa Territory between 1833 and 1839. Where are they buried and
when did they die? They sold land in Fountain Co., IN in 1833, left Indiana to
go to IL with the David BRYANT family. Where did they go? I need tax, land
records. The STAINBROOK children were: Frederick, Elizabeth, Margaret, Maria,
